Welcome
“Without God, I am nothing.”
Born in Arkansas and raised in the Chicago area, Vickie McCuiston is a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. After losing her first husband to cancer in 2007, she later found love again and is now happily married to Bob McCuiston.
Her life has not been without challenges, but through every trial she has leaned on her faith. With an Associate Degree in Bible Theology, she is a licensed and ordained minister who has dedicated her life to helping others. In 2004, she founded a women’s shelter in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, an experience she considers one of the most fulfilling chapters of her journey.
Her calling is to walk alongside women in need, pointing them toward Jesus and helping them find strength, freedom, and a new direction. Through this book, she hopes to remind women that there is light at the end of the tunnel. No one has to remain trapped in an abusive relationship, there is hope, healing, and a way forward.

About the book
Abuse leaves scars, on the body, on the mind, on the soul. But scars are not the end of the story. In these pages, twelve women testify to unimaginable hardship and the God who broke through their despair with healing, restoration, and hope.
From childhood neglect to betrayal, addiction, and loss, each story crescendos toward one unshakable truth: no chain is too heavy for God to break. The refrain “But God!!!” is not an afterthought, but the very heartbeat of survival and redemption.
Vickie McCuiston has gathered these testimonies into a chorus of resilience that refuses silence and insists on new beginnings. Their honesty is raw, their hope contagious, and their faith a guiding light for anyone searching for strength in the aftermath of suffering.
This book is more than testimony, it is a lifeline. A resource for church groups, counseling circles, recovery ministries, and every reader who longs to believe that abundant life is still possible. Across cultures and generations, its message resounds: where despair speaks loudly, the answer is always But God!!!
